Areas of Giving

The Dancing Tides Foundation is focused on areas in which we can make a difference and are actively looking for opportunities to be transformative.

We offer financial support primarily to nonprofit organizations, with a special emphasis on the following areas of giving:

 EDUCATION

We believe that knowledge helps people make better choices and that it’s essential to provide high-quality education to every child in this country. The foundation supports competitive compensation to attract and motivate great teachers and focuses heavily on advancing math and STEM education.

Dancing Tides continues to partner with Math for America to identify and reward outstanding teachers in math and science.

THE ENVIRONMENT

We are passionate about conserving the environment and aren’t afraid to pursue unconventional and innovative paths to do so.

In 2020, Dancing Tides provided seed funding for the “Nature for Water Facility” project - a water fund program originated by The Nature Conservancy. This program is designed to provide best-in-class watershed investment programs to incentivize governments and other stakeholders to use nature-based solutions in their water infrastructure. Such “green infrastructure” can both be more cost-effective as well as restore forest and wetland areas vital to conservation efforts. You can find out more about The Nature Conservancy’s water funds and where they are active here.

HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

We believe in a strong social safety net to protect the most vulnerable among us. Every person should have an equal opportunity to thrive and live healthy, happy lives.

That is why the Dancing Tides Foundation has remained a key partner of The Robin Hood Foundation, a foundation dedicated to fighting poverty in New York City. The Robin Hood Foundation partners with over 100 different charities to improve social services in the city and closely monitors their outcomes.

The Foundation also supports the work of the International Rescue Committee, an NGO that has responded to the world’s worst humanitarian crises since 1933 and for which Jillian Muller is a board member.

MUSIC

Music is a great source of happiness and well-being for performers and audiences alike. Dancing Tides is most interested in helping ease some of the financial burdens that developing musicians face in pursuing their craft, and helping make sure music is taught well at early levels of schooling.

While Dancing Tides provides much of its support in this area through the Live Music Society, the Foundation continues to support initiatives in the area of music education, such as Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, Education Through Music, and iAM Music.

As a singer-songwriter himself, Pete Muller is deeply dedicated to the cause of music education, going so far as to privately help to save New York’s legendary Power Station studios in partnership with the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the New York City Mayor’s Office for Media and Entertainment.
